Well... I tried to make the spell checker to work with Russian dictionaries but with the same bad luck. The English spell checker does work with the notes text but it does it terribly slowly and loads CPU to full capacity. After re-visiting another note and coming back to the previous one, the checker starts checking again. It took over 7 min to check a note with 90 words text:-(

Hello!

I have several dictionary related issues.

I've downloaded the Swedish dictionary, unzipped the file and added the dic (now with dict extension) file into Xmind preferences. However, all umlauted words are incorrect in the file (e.g. "f^r" instead of "för", cf. German "für"). Changing the encoding to UTF-8 doesn't help.

I haven't removed the English dictionary (should I?), but I can't find a way to make the Swedish the default one. If I add a word to a dictionary which one it is added? I suspect the default as I can't find the word in the Swedish one. This means that my English dictionary will be filled with Swedish words, not good.

Are the dictionaries bound to a map? I.e. if I add words in a map to a dictionary and share this map, does the receiver have those words in his/her dictionary so that they are not flagged by the spell checking system?

Pointers appreciated.

@rupert This should work. did you modify the download file name into .dict? Because this solution is reported by a user, which means it works for him. So could you please take another try. :)

Re: P.
I had the same problem for Czech language. I had to rename (from .dic to .dict) and change encoding from cp 1250 (Windows platform) to utf8 (Linux). Perhaps it will help

I have tried it with the German version. Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with special characters.

All words with German Umlauts ("äöü") are marked as incorrect without any suggestion for correction. This is even true for very basic words (i.e. "für" - German translation of "for").

Maybe an encoding issue?

This seems to work. You only have to change the file format from .dic to .dict

Thanks for the hint
