iPad:A great mind mapping pad from Apple
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 in Discussion, Featured | 18 Comments »
Again, on Jan. 28, Apple brought us another big surprise, iPad. The whole world are crazy and talking over it. On Twitter, Facebook, blogs and etc, iPad has been everywhere. The only word to describe it may be “amazing”. iPad has the amazing idea, shape, design, and the philosophy.
Importantly, we also so agree with what Churk Frey has said in blog, “Mind mapping on the iPad could be incredibly cool!”.
You know, many investigations indicate that, pen and paper are still the first important tool for many people to do creative things, like mind mapping, planning and notes-taking, although there is a high-performance computer in front of them. During communication with XMind’s friends, we know that even the heavy users still draw maps on paper sometimes. Because we still like using our fingers.
iPad is totally different! It’s different than iPhone and iPod touch, which don’t suit for using mind mapping software, because of their own limitations. It’s different than Macs and netbooks. It’s even different than any other tablet PCs. It’s a brand-new platform. “It’s a game changer!”
XMind has begun the plan upon XMind for iPad. It’s brand-new, too. It’s totally re-invented. Of course, ease-to-use, powerful, humanity, and friendly will still be its character and specialty. We won’t be the first mind mapping software on iPad. You know, it’s XMind’s style. But we do believe that the XMind for iPad should become the best mind mapping software in the world. Even better than XMind for desktop!
If you have any idea about mind mapping for iPad, please feel free to contact us via ipad@xmind.net. Thanks!

I would like a touch screen to make the shapes and voice recognition to add text and to open the browser and search.
Then I want a pony
Will it be possible to create a XMIND map on a Laptop or Desktop in the format required by iPad?
Essentially, a special version of XMIND that can be downloaded to our PC Desktop/laptop and create maps in the iPad format.
Also, will you have a system for converting an existing XMIND map into the format used by iPad?
Besides our free Library Of Mind maps, we are creating special paid subscription mind map libraries for various professions like medicine, law, real estate, etc.
XMIND and iPad can be very important in this endeavor.
We at G2F, Inc consider your software to be wonderful and first-class in every way. Finally, you are exactly right, iPad has enormous potential.

I REALLY liked your post and blog! It took me a small bit to find your site…but I bookmarked it. Would you mind if I threw up a link back to your page? I have a Laptop Battery Related site of my own at Laptop Battery Depot. Thanks! I enjoyed reading your writing!
Yes, yes, yes, PLEASE!!!!
I’m using XMind on my mac and I am thinking about replacing my notebook with an ipad for so many tasks. One of them is mindmapping. I just came along this thought and found this blog. There are a number of use cases where the iPhone screen is too small and the notebook to big, especially when sorting out ideas while being mobile (e.g. while organizing photo shoots). It would be so great to have the same files on mac and ipad.
greetings, Dietmar
Awesome post, I’m an avid reader of this blog, keep up the great work, and I’ll be a regular for a very long time.
I would like to see integration with iDisk and box.net (personal use rather than collaborative and so I do not need most of the features for xmi d pro).
Further, greater flexibility of structure would be good (the free form organization of the mind node app is a good example here)
YES, it could improve the fun !
Any idea of date/time for this version of xmind ?
Thanks for this good news!
I’m using iThoightsHD rift now on the iPad. The iPad is a perfect platform for mind mapping. Looking forward to what you guys have to offer on it.
@Wayne thanks for supporting XMind. Once we have any updates, we will publish and notice you asap. BTW, iThoughts now support XMind file format. So you can import and export xmind files.
It will be GREAT. I’m actually using ithoughtsHD on my iPad but it doesn’t get anywhere closer than the Xmind goes. I’ll buy it as soon it’s on the store. Thanks a lot.
That’s a great news. I have tried many mindmapping tools .. trust me. I use them professionally as well as on the personal level. Helped many people to enhance the quality in planning of their work, looking for innovative solutions to their problems and..but always something missing. Or too expensive to suggest to my friends. Then I discovered Xmind with great features (one of the best being the multitab workbooks). Please keep us posted! Really excited about this prospect. All available tools including Ithoughts or mindmeister are very much scrapped down…keep all the features in! Two things on the wish-list of course: collaborative editing..and hypertextable notes
This is great news and I hope you are close to launching. I have been trying a number of iPad mind mapping tools because it is, perhaps, the best use of my iPad thus far. I use mind mapping software for note taking. It forces me to be succinct with my notes and also affords me (forces me) the ability to organize my notes by interconnecting the ideas logically. I make a living mostly as a public speaker and, so, get to attend a lot of excellent presentations at conferences, and thumbing my iPad is a perfect way to take notes.
So, as a note-taker, one of the most important features of XMind is that I can grow the map without having to leave the keyboard and reach for the mouse — tab key for new topics, enter key for new siblings, and arrow keys to navigate the map.
If there is some way to work an XMind app on the iPad with my thumbs, it would be far more functional than any of the other mapping tools already available.
Thanks in advance!

Simply put, I would love having XMind on my iPad. All mojo to you in making this happen, and thanks in advance.
I would buy it the day it was released.

Hi there
Currently using iThoughtsHD on the ipad – and big missing feature on opening an XMIND file is the multiple tabs – I can only see the data on the first tab!!!
Please include multiple tab support in your app… I’ll get it for sure then.
@Lesley-Ann Thank you very much for your support. Your suggestion is very important for XMind of ipad.
thanks again.
My question, short and simple, when will this product evolve? This blog posting was in February, the iPad has been out since April, and perhaps generation 2 of ipad might come to us in January 2011.
